InCommon Federation

The InCommon Federation is the U.S. education and research identity federation, providing a common framework for trusted shared management of access to on-line resources. Through InCommon, Identity Providers can give their users single sign-on convenience and privacy protection, while online Service Providers control access to their protected resources.

Federation Technical Guide

The InCommon Federation Technical Guide (on the InCommon Federation wiki space) provides a convenient way to locate the details and documentation for implementing federated identity management with InCommon. The guide includes sections on precursors to implementation, technical implementation, and advanced topics.

Federation Features

	Delegated Administration - Site administrators can delegate responsibilty for administering service provider (SP) metadata to another administrator.
	Password Reset (Self-Service)- Reset your password for the Federation Manager yourself using our two-factor pasword reset process
	Research & Scholarship Category of Service Providers - To make it easier to deploy collaborative services, and make the user experience as seamless as possible, InCommon has created categories. Service providers join the appopriate category and identity providers release one set of attributes to the category.
	Federated Error Handling - InCommon operates a centralized federated error handling service that will display an SP-branded error pageto the user, with a link to the error handling URL for the IdP.
